The MIM Mineral Museum in Beirut, Lebanon is a unique establishment that houses an impressive variety of minerals from various parts of the world. There are more than 4,000 different specimens on display here – each one carefully chosen for its scientific or aesthetic value. The museum also offers educational programs and activities designed to increase public understanding and appreciation of geology and mineralogy.
The MIM Mineral Museum also has a rich history associated with it. It started out as part of the collection within the University of Saint Joseph's Department of Geology in 1898 before being moved to its current location in 1948. Since then, the museum has grown significantly – both in terms of its collection size and visitor numbers. In addition to showcasing some incredible mineral specimens, visitors can also learn about their formation processes through interactive displays and presentations.
The MIM Mineral Museum is located at Rue Sommeiller #9 in Beirut and is open from Tuesday-Saturday from 9 am-4 pm (closed Sundays & Mondays). Admission to the museum is free for individuals who wish to explore its wide range of exhibitions, including a range of permanent exhibits dedicated to crystal growth processes and Earth sciences topics like plate tectonics. The museum also hosts numerous special events throughout the year such as seminars and conferences related to mineralogy topics.
For those keen for a hands-on experience with minerals, there's also a special section that allows visitors to touch different crystals and minerals under supervision. This makes learning about them much easier while providing an enjoyable experience too! Additionally, there are regular workshops held at MIM that teach visitors how they can further their knowledge on mineralogy topics - all while having fun along the way!
